Frederick L. Freehauf

 

Frederick L. Freehauf, 85, of Jackson, passed away on Monday April 27, 2009, at The Kathy Hospice in West Bend.

Fritz was born on June 20, 1923, in Hartford to the late Carl and Frieda (nee Grob) Freehauf. On Nov. 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Eunice Miels at Friedens United Church of Christ in Jackson. Eunice preceded him in death on June 12, 1998. 

Fritz graduated from Katzenbach Tech, the school of “hard knocks.” He was a Dale Carnegie graduate. He owned and operated the Jackson Mill, Inc. for 36 years, retiring in October of 1988.

Fritz was an active lifetime member and Sunday school teacher of New Hope United Church of Christ. He served as vice president and trustee of the village of Jackson, and commissioner of the police and fire departments. Fritz was also a member of the Cedar Lake Home Board, the Toastmasters Club and the West Bend and Jackson Senior Citizen’s Groups, where he was an avid sheepshead player. He belonged to the Jackson Area Businessmen’s Association and the Pure Strategies Investment Club.

He is survived by three children, Fay (Larry) Rauen, Sue (Robert) Brautigam and Ann Schmirler (friend, James David); seven grandchildren, Justin Lockwood, Lance Rauen, Natalie Duehring, Nelson Brautigam, Steven Brautigam, Karl Schmirler and August Schmirler; six great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Kaia, Sylis, Nyomi, Wes and Ava; one brother, Donald Freehauf; other relatives and many friends.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eunice; brothers, Paul and Carl Freehauf II; sister, Mary Lehman; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Freehauf and Doris Freehauf.

A funeral service in remembrance of Fritz will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ, 4360 Jackson Dr., Jackson. The Rev. James Hill will officiate.  Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of service. Memorials to The Kathy Hospice or charity of your choice are appreciated.
