Howard J. Gitzlaff, 73, of West Bend, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009, surrounded by his family at home.
Howard was born on Aug. 25, 1935, to Larry and Lillian (nee Hackbarth) Gitzlaff. Howard married Jean (nee Herlin) on March 8, 1989. He was an avid golfer, sportsman, and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed traveling and gambling trips, but he especially loved his camping land in Iola and his family.
Howard is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Gail of West Bend, John (Kerin) of West Bend; step-children, John (Julie) Evers of Minn., and Holly Evers of Richfield. He is further survived by his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Kohout; sisters-in-law, Anita Gitzlaff and Lorraine Gitzlaff; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susie Nielsen; siblings, Larry (Rosemary), Lucille (Kenneth) Hardin, Gordon (Doris) Chuck, Roger (Eunice), Kenneth, Florence and Gerald; and brother-in-law, Frank Kohout.
A funeral service will be on Friday, May 1, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 1 from 1 p.m. until time of service. Memorials are appreciated
