Elmer M. Seefeld

Elmer M. Seefeld, 97, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at New Castle Place in Mequon.

Elmer was born on Sept. 1, 1911 to Gustav and Helen (nee Drescher) in Van Dyne.

He attended Marion College and, in 1931, took an office position at National Exchange Bank in Fond du Lac for 10 years. In those years, he was much involved in music, solo and giving voice lessons, after studying voice in Chicago.  After leaving the bank, he worked in sales for two years for Henkle Motor Sales in Fond du Lac.  Thereafter, he went into business for himself by acquiring the Studebaker Agency.

He had married Alberta Ames in 1939 and was living on Lake Winnebago, but when WWII started in 1941, there were no more car sales. So, in 1942, he sold the cottage and moved to the farm he had purchased during the 1930s while working at the bank. The farm was next door to the farm house he was born in. In 1946, he moved to West Bend and built Seefeld Motors Garage on Main Street and took on the Dodge and Rambler franchises. In 1953, they built a home on Evergreen Street in West Bend and, in 1970, Alberta passed away.

In 1980, Elmer married Marilyn Wolff Prenzlow of Fox Point. In 1987, they purchased a condo in the Florida Keys at Islamorada and enjoyed many years of deep sea fishing. In 1990, Elmer retired from the car business.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and especially golfing. Elmer was a long-time member of West Bend Country Club.

Elmer is survived by his wife Marilyn; children Ames and Ellen (Gregorie) Miklas;  and stepson Elmer Prenzlow.  He is further survived by his grandchildren Amy Seefeld, Ethan, Adam and Jordan Miklas and E. Alexander Prenzlow; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death his parents and his wife Alberta.
