Josephine M. "Jean" Brittain

Josephine M. "Jean" Brittain (nee Gundrum), 96, of Slinger, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Autumn Oaks.

Jean was born on June 11, 1913, to John and Anna (nee Martin) Gundrum in Theresa, where she worked on the family farm. She met the late Lyle S. Brittain in Milwaukee and they were married on Nov. 30, 1931. After marriage, Josephine worked at the Schlitz Brewery and later the West Bend Company and retired after 25 years of service. She liked casino trips, gardening, cooking, traveling and playing cards. Josephine was a member of St. Peterís Catholic Church of Slinger and Jesus Our Shepherd Church in Nenno.

Josephine is survived by her sister-in-law, Otilda Gundrum of West Bend; canine companion, Snookey; nieces; nephews; special friends, Rick and Mary Meyer of Hartford, Gail Haugen of Slinger and the Schultz family; other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; siblings, Gregory (Mildred) Gundrum, Angeline Schmitz, Christina Wood, John (Marie) Gundrum, Jacob (Elizabeth) Gundrum, Ben (Grace) Gundrum, Theodore (Jeanette) Gundrum, Andrew Gundrum, infant brother, Anton and infant sister, Anna.

A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at 6 p.m. at Jesus Our Shepherd Church of Nenno with the Rev. Frank Baiocchi officiating. Visitation will be at the church only on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4 p.m. until time of Mass. Interment of ashes will follow the Mass at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Nenno with luncheon and fellowship after interment at Jesus Our Shepherd Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Jesus Our Shepherd Church of Nenno.
