JoAnn M. Sponholz

JoAnn M. Sponholz (nee Roden), 61, of West Bend died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at her residence with her family at her side.

She was born Aug. 24, 1947, in West Bend to the late Joseph and Rose (nee Yogerst) Roden and married Carl N. Sponholz on Nov. 24, 1973, at Holy Angels Church.

JoAnn liked to travel and especially enjoyed going up north to the cabin near Princeton. She was a collector and was very proficient at basket making. She was a member of the Volkswagen Club of Sheboygan.

JoAnn is survived be her husband of 35 years, Carl; her daughter, Cindi (Joel) Haynie of DeForest; and her two step-sons, Jeffrey (Kathy) Sponholz of Morton, Ill., and Randy Sponholz of Hartford. She enjoyed and is proud of her seven grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren. JoAnn is further survived by her two sisters, Judith (Edwin) Buechler of Belgium and Nancy (John) Johnstone of West Bend; her mother-in-law, Marjorie Sponholz of West Bend; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Herbert (Patti) Sponholz of Jackson, Barbara (Charles) Spaeth of West Bend, Beverly (Eugene) Mueller of Kewaskum and Kenneth (Sandy) Sponholz of West Bend; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose Roden; and her father-in-law, Herbert W. Sponholz.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend with the Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. Please meet at church for Mass. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend from 4 p.m. until a prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m. Memorials to the Make-A-Wish Foundation are appreciated.
