Richard L. Mueller

Richard L. Mueller of West Bend met our heavenly Father on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1930, in Barton, to the late Roman A. and Frances W. (nee Eisenmann) Mueller.

After being drafted into the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country while stationed in Germany during the Korean War. It was at this time he met his future wife, Hildegard Berteneder. They were united in marriage on Nov. 4, 1953. Following his discharge in 1954, he returned to the West Bend area where he began his career with the former Wisconsin Electric Power Company. He retired from Wisconsin Electric Power Company after a 43 year career.

He loved raising and caring for German shepherd dogs, was an avid sports fan, and was known for his "big" hugs.

Survivors include his wife, Hildegard; three children, Marion (Gary) Kroening of West Bend, Robert (Carol) of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Shirley (Jeff) Haas of Reno, Nev.; a grandson, Jason (Jamie) Kroening of West Bend; two sisters, Virginia (Leonard) Van Beek and Mary Ann (Herman) Paulus, both of West Bend; a brother, Jerome (Barbara) of West Bend; a1 sister-in-law, Herta Liep of Kaufbeuren, Germany; two God-children, Steve Purucker and Jenny Suda; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James "Jim" Mueller

Richard was full of joy when he recently learned that he was going to be a great-grandfather in March.

Funeral services will be held at the Schmidt Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 27. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with a service, officiated by the Rev. Nathan Reesman, at 7 p.m. Burial to be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Washington County Memorial Park.

The family has requested memorials to the American Cancer Society for the benefit of pancreatic cancer research.

Richard’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Mosley, Dr. Schwartz and the caring staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassion and support.
