Imelda M. Sauer, 93


Imelda M. Sauer (nee Zimmel), 93, of West Bend, died on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1916, in Allenton to the late Paul and Margaret (nee Wolf) Zimmel.

Following her marriage to Arnold W. Sauer on May 20, 1939, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, the couple settled in West Bend.

For a number of years she was employed at Amity Leather Products on a parttime basis, and later worked at the former Jim Handy Hardware.

In addition to being a loving wife, devoted mother and later grandmother, Imelda enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead. For more than 45 years, she would get together with friends to play various card games.

Survivors include three children, Barbara (Robert) Puerling of West Bend, Robert (Barbara) of West Bend and Richard (Karen) of Verona; nine grandchildren, Chris Niehaus, Lori Smith, Debbie Schultz, Tracy (Martin) Nowak, Mike (Jalene) Sauer, Jill (Craig) Pintens, Nicole Sauer, Ben Sauer and Adam Sauer; eight greatgrandchildren; a stepsister-in-law, Virginia Goeden of Oregon; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Puerling; a grandson-in-law, Michael Schultz; a brother, Roman (Marion) Zimmel; her step-father, William Goeden; two step-brothers, Alex (Irene) Goeden and Daniel Goeden; and a step-sister, Rosalind (Fred) Peterson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 1 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Haines presiding. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church only on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
