Joseph T. Roeckl, 88
Joseph T. Roeckl of Newburg died on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Campus at the age of 88 years. He was born on May 14, 1921 in the Town of Saukville to the late John and Barbara (nee Waldkirch) Roeckl.
Joseph grew up on the family homestead. In 1941 he purchased a farm in Newburg and later purchased the homestead. Both farms continue to be run by his son.
On May 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Regina R. Thomas at St. Frances Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg. Regina predeceased Oct. 9, 1999.
In addition to running the family farm, he enjoyed playing cards, particularly sheepshead. He played cards in various card clubs.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society in Newburg.
Survivors include three children, Jerome of Newburg, Marilyn (Eugene) Mayer of Fredonia and Arlene (Ken) Roskopf of Fredonia; eight grandchildren Linda (Scott) Szczerbinski, Pattie (Tim) Miller, Laurie (Mike) Dybul, Mark Mayer, Amy (Alex) Schroeder, Jeff Mayer, Julie (Troy) Somerville and Brenda Roskopf; 10 great-grandchildren Brianna and Ty Szczerbinski, Mallory, Matt and Natalie Miller, Talan and Chloe Dybul, Mason Schroeder and Tyler and Tori Somerville; one brother Edward (Esther) Roeckl of Racine; two sisters-in-law Sr. Mary Ann Thomas of Oshkosh and Alice (Leo) Schickert of West Bend; one brother-in-law Ralph (Hildegard) Thomas of Cedarburg; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Himler, and a sister, Lorraine Bares.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. at Holy Trintiy Catholic Church in Newburg with Fr. Kevin Kowalske presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church only on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
