Harold A. Crass
Harold A. Crass of West Bend, formerly of Newburg, died on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at the Samaritan Health Center at the age of 93. He was born on Oct. 19, 1915, in Newburg to the late John H. and Mary (nee Rau) Crass.
In 1941, Harold enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Newburg.
On Nov. 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to Esther A. Thelen at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.
He and his wife owned and operated Crass Hardware in Newburg until selling the business in 1973. He then became employed at Century Hardware in Milwaukee, retiring in February 1980. Since the late 1980s Harold and Esther have lived in West Bend.
Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Doris Thelen of Plymouth; a brother-in-law Arno Seidemann of Menomonee Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald John, in infancy and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Newburg with the Rev. Jon Baumann officiating. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Newburg. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Thursday at the church only.
Memorials can be made to the St. Johnís Lutheran Church or the Newburg Fire Department.
