Elmer G. Barkow
Elmer G. Barkow of West Bend died on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Samaritan Health Center at the age of 86 years. He was born on March 15, 1922, in Milwaukee to the late Richard and Louise (nee Schaus) Barkow.
In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to the Milwaukee area. For a time he worked for various machine shops in the Milwaukee area.
On Jan. 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Agnes M. Survis in Grafton. Agnes preceeded him in death April 18, 1999.
In 1958, he became employed at the former American Motors plant in Milwaukee, retiring after 23 years of service.
Since 1990, he has resided in West Bend.
Elmer was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and major and all-star bowling leagues in Milwaukee.
He is survived by step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son in infancy, three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joseph Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park, Milwaukee. Visitation will be at the church only on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
