Nancy I. Ryan

Nancy I. Ryan (nee Makoutz), 58, of West Bend was born to eternal life on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Kathy Hospice. She was born Oct. 30, 1950, in Milwaukee to John and the late Caroline (nee Krueger) Makoutz and married Patrick T. Ryan on March 1, 1975, in Milwaukee.

Nancy achieved academic excellence throughout her life, culminating in graduating with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with degrees in business management and human resources. As a young adult she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the reserves. Nancy was a longtime employee at Briggs and Stratton, retiring after 30 years. Nancy then worked part-time at the Museum of Wisconsin Art and volunteered her time and talents to many organizations including the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust.

She enjoyed her hobby farm that included numerous animals which she lovingly cared for. She appreciated the beauty of nature and enjoyed photography.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Pat, her father John Makoutz of Milwaukee, her sister Joanne (Frederick) Reich of Greenfield, her mother-in-law Rachel (Joe) Kane of Milwaukee and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Nancy is preceded in death by her mother Caroline, her brother David and her sister Barbara (Gary) Kitchen.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with the Rev. Richard Wendell officiating. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Arlington Park Cemetery in Milwaukee. Visitation will be Friday, at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.
