Kathryn D. Furger, 89

Kathryn D. Furger (nee Mrazik) age 89 of West Bend entered into eternal peace on Thursday January 1, 2009 surrounded by family. 

She was born August 5, 1919 in the Town of Trenton to the late Frank and Agnes (nee Fechter) Mrazik and married Edward W. Furger on July 29, 1939 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg. 

Edward preceded her in death on May 26, 2006. After their marriage Edward and Kathryn settled in West Bend. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a cook at Larry's Supper Club and then worked at Mehrings's Dairy Queen on South Main St. in West Bend for 27 years. 

Kathryn was a marvelous cook and also loved to bake. Kathryn worked hard her entire life, but knew how to kick up her heels and have a good time too. Family gatherings meant great food and lots of it, a room filled with people and usually ended in a hot game of sheepshead, while Kathryn was continually serving her guests. 

Kathryn was a member of the Christian Woman's Confraternity at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Her religious faith gave her strength throughout her life and especially in her last 12 years when she suffered from Alzheimers. 

Survivors include 3 children; Nancy (Jerry) Mehring of West Bend, Gary (Peggy) Furger of West Bend and Lin (Patrick) Griffin of West Bend. 

She was the cherished grandmother to 9 grandchildren Patrick (Nina) Mehring of Maui, HI, Jeffrey (Tamiyo) Mehring of The Big Island of HI, Robb (Ayumi) Mehring of Honolulu, HI, Shannon (Jeffrey) McDowell of Pompano Beach, FL, Adam Furger of Grafton, WI, Senior Airman Michael Furger of Las Vegas, NV, Monique Furger of Eau Claire, WI, Cole Griffin & Jimmy Griffin of West Bend. and 5 great grandchildren: Sho, Zeb, Marley Kathryn, Nanami & Cocomi Mehring all of Hawaii and she often entertained them with her humor.

 Also survived by two siblings, Rita (Willard) Schwinn of Filmore and Franklin Mrazik (Special Friend Dee Kilby) of West Bend, Brother-in-law Steve Rossman of West Bend, Sister-in-law Mildred Furger of Milwaukee, nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.Kathryn was preceded in death by her son James, one sister Dorothy Ansay and brothers Gilbert and James Mrazik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m.on Monday January 5th at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Father Jeff Haines presiding. 

Visitation will be at the church only from 2:30 to 4:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to St. Frances Cabrini Education Fund or the Wisconsin Alzheimers Association.

The family would like to extend Special Thanks to the staff of Samartian Health Care and Cedar Community Hospice for their loving care given to Kathryn.
