Charles "Chuck" L. Salkowski

Charles "Chuck" L. Salkowski of Hartford was Born to Eternal Life Tuesday January 6, 2009 at the age of 78 years. He was born May 14, 1930 in Chicago, IL the son of Leo and Estella (nee Nichol) Salkowski, and grew up in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. He attended Holy Rosary Grade School and Kewaunee High School. As a young man he worked in his family's gas station and played clarinet in several area dance bands, including the Jimmy Nejedlo Band. He served a two-year term in the U.S. Navy. On May 10, 1952, he married Grace Novotny and together they raised five children. He earned a degree in engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and was employed first at the West Bend Company, then Chrysler Outboard, and retired from Mercury Marine. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He played clarinet for more than 40 years with the Hartford City Band. He founded the Kettle Moraine Flyers model airplane club and introduced many young people to the hobby through the annual Delta Dart contest.

Loving husband of Grace (nee Novotny) Salkowski, dear father of Sally (Scott) Witte of Milwaukee, Jeanne (Mike) Cohen of Brown Deer, Barbara (Tim) Sandretti of Texas, Charles (Caryn) Salkowski of Texas and Paul (Patty) Salkowski of Minnesota, precious grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, brother of William Salkowski of Texas and Margaret (Leon) Langer of Fox Lake, Illinois. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation is Friday January 9 at St. Kilian Catholic Church 264 W. State Street from 4-7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7PM. Fr. David LaPlante will officiate. Interment is Saturday at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Kewaunee, WI. In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to the Hartford City Band or the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Kilian Parish. The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home is serving the family.
