Elizabeth Kuepper, 87
Elizabeth "Betty" Kuepper (Fries), 87, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009.
Betty was born on Dec. 21, 1921, to Leo and Anna (Spaeth) in Hartford.
She graduated from Slinger High School, and for several years she played saxophone in her brotherís band, Patís Westerners.
Betty married Alois "Ollie" Kuepper on Dec. 29, 1945, at St. Peterís Catholic Church of Slinger. Together they farmed land near Hubertus, which had been in the Kuepper family since 1875.
On the farm, they raised their two sons, George and Gary, and were members of St. Hubertís Catholic Church.
Betty also worked for many years as bookkeeper at the Fox and Houndís Restaurant.
In 1977, they moved to Casa Grande, Ariz., where Ollie passed away in 1978.
Betty remained in Casa Grande and worked for Valley National Bank until her retirement.
During her 17 years in Casa Grande, she was a member of St. Anthonyís Catholic Church. She was an active volunteer at the church, the local historical museum, Desert Valley Care Center, and she performed in a local kitchen band.
In her later years there, she traveled extensively with her companion, Arnold Keller, who died in 1996.
In 1993, Betty suffered a debilitating stroke, which left her with partial paralysis and expressive aphasia.
She spent several years in a nursing home in Long Beach, Calif., before moving to a facility in Fayetteville, Ark.
Betty is survived by her sons George (Dee Beckley) Kuepper of Fayetteville and Gary (Gloria) Kuepper of Long Beach, Calif. She is further survived by three grandchildren, Monica, David and Gary Kuepper and one great-grandson, Ruben Casarez, all residents of California; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alois; and brothers, Victor and Leroy "Pat" Fries.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Friday at St. Gabrielís Catholic Parish, 1200 St. Gabriel Way, Hubertus, with Fr. Charles Hanel officiating.
Interment to follow Mass at St. Hubertís Cemetery, alongside her husband, Alois.
Visitation will be at the church only on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at noon.
