Audrey B. Schmitt, 78

Audrey B. Schmitt, 78, of Port Washington, passed away in the evening hours of Monday, June 29, 2009, at Port Haven assisted living facility in Port Washington, surrounded by her loving family.

Audrey was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 30, 1930, daughter of Fred Bertz and Marie Weiland Bertz. On Feb. 7, 1953, she married George Schmitt at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Mrs. Schmitt worked as a licensed practical nurse for area care facilities, the most recent being St. Camillus in Wauwatosa.

Audrey was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington. She enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead, playing the organ, dancing and listening to country music. She is survived by her husband, George, of Port Washington; her three children, Kathy (Gary) Burmesch, Mike (Mary) Schmitt and Linda Baumann, all of Port Washington. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, T.J and Emily Burmesch, Katie and Patrick Schmitt, Mike (Carrie) Baumann, Dan (special friend Jen Janeshek) Baumann and Sarah Baumann; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jonathan and Joseph Baumann; one brother, Don (Carol) Bertz of Waukesha; two nephews, Richard (Pam) Bertz and Robert (Ann) Bertz; other relatives and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie Bertz, and her in-laws, John and Bertha Schmitt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, July 2, at 6 p.m. at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington with Father Jim Ernster officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee. Visitation will be at the church today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.
