Celeste Mary Meilinger

Celeste Mary Meilinger (nee Bremser), 99, of West Bend, entered into eternal peace, surrounded by her family on July 5, 2009, at Kathy Hospice.

Celeste was born on Nov. 13, 1909, to John and Susan (nee Berres) Bremser. She grew up one mile north of St. Michaels on the Bremser homestead with her eight siblings. She attended St. Michaels Catholic Grade School. On June 13, 1934, she was united in marriage to George J. Meilinger. He passed away on Feb. 13, 1960. George and Celeste farmed near St. Michaels. In 1946, they moved to West Bend and raised their three children. In her younger years, she was an avid gardener enjoying her large vegetable garden and many beautiful flowers, a trait which her children now also appreciate and value. Years back, she participated in meetings and outings with the AARP Senior Group, the Young at Heart, Christian Women’s Society, the Mor-Ed Group and also quilted with the Holy Angels Mission Circle.

Celeste will be lovingly missed by her three children, Carl Meilinger of Waupaca, Gail Meilinger of Milwaukee and Georgiann Waraksa of West Bend. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Jodi (Kent) Buttles, Robert Meilinger, Thomas (Joelle) Meilinger, Michael (Sarah Reusch) Waraksa, Mark (Cindy) Waraksa; 11 great-grandchildren, Megan, Samantha, Derek, Chelsie, Garrett, Chloe, Karter, Konner, Lauren, Logan and Leah; four great-great grandchildren, Kaylyna, Ashlyn, Joclyn and Masen; brothers Earl Bremser of West Bend, Frank Bremser of Manitowoc; sisters, Lenore Goerke of North Carolina, Mary Brauchle of Wild Rose, Angie Plzak of Jackson; sister-in-law, Althea (Frank) Falter of West Bend; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, daughter-in-law, Beverly Meilinger; brother, Alois Bremser; sisters, Helen Weinert and Gertrude Koll; two grandchildren, Mary and Patrick Meilinger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at noon at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 138 N. 8th Ave., West Bend, with the Rev. Gerald Brittain officiating. A private burial will take place at Holy Angels Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church only on Thursday, July 9, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Holy Angels Parish or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 200 S. Executive Dr., Brookfield, WI 53005.

The family of Celeste would like to thank the staff at Cedar Bay West, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Kathy Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Celeste’s strong Christian faith which she passed onto her children gave strength to her family and helped her face the end of life with courage.
