Alfred P. "Butch" Bauer, 96

Alfred P. "Butch" Bauer of West Bend died on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Health Care Center of Cedar Com-munity at the age of 96 years.  He was born on March 8, 1913 in the town of West Bend to the late Frank and Barbara (nee Tescher) Bauer.

 Following his marriage to Genevieve A. Schield on Nov. 20, 1937 at Holy Trinity Catho-lic Church in Newburg, they continued living on the Bauer homestead farm in the town of West Bend. Together, they continued to operate the dairy farm until retiring in 1975.  In May, 1997, they moved to West Bend.

 In addition to dairy farming, he operated a sod farm and made maple syrup. For nearly 100 years and three generations of the Bauer family, maple syrup was made from the trees located on the homestead. He also tended a large organic produce garden.  The harvest from the garden was sold at various local farmer's markets.

After Genevieve’s death on Sept. 16, 1999, Butch continued the tradition of bread baking which was shared with family and friends alike.

He was a member of the West Bend Lodge No. 1398 Loyal Order Of Moose and the Catholic Order of Foresters Court No. 458.

Survivors include four children, Allen (Helen) of West Bend, Ronald (Bonnie) of Menomonee Falls, Leroy (Susan) of West Bend and Marijean (Bob) Janzer of Kewaskum; four grandchildren, Christopher Bauer, Steven (Sheila) Bauer, Scott Janzer and Andy Janzer; one great-grandson, Sebastian Bauer; one sister, Malinda Beck of West Bend; one brother-in-law, Donald Theisen of West Bend; two cousins, Lloyd Theisen of West Bend and Marion Frohm of Michigan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Carol; three brothers, Herbert (Lillian), Edwin (Leona) and Alex (Marie); a sister, Clara Theisen, and a brother-in-law, Rudolph Beck.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Fr. Nathan Reesman presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church only on Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 5:30 p.m. The Moose Ritual will be at 7 p.m. at the church Friday.
