Violet Treutel

Violet Treutel (nee Dortman), 76, of West Bend, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1932, in Medford to the late Henry and Kathrine (nee Krug) Dortman. As a child, the family moved from Stetsonville to Marshfield. After graduating from high school, Vi worked as a telephone operator and as a librarian.

On July 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to Lloyd J. Treutel in Marshfield.

For a brief time, they lived in Marshfield and Austin, Minn., prior to settling in West Bend in 1961. After their children were older, Vi worked in the deli at the former Red Owl and National Foods grocery stores.

She was a long-time active member of the local TOPS chapter, where she also served in various office positions, including as a past-president.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed attending area rummage sales and was an avid reader of many different types of books. She also took joy in cooking and walking her dog.

Vi will be sadly missed by her loving family and dear friends. Survivors include her husband of nearly 55 years; six children, Steven (Julie) of Spring Valley, Minn., Kathrine (Roger) Breuer of West Bend, Jodeen (Curtis) Casetta of West Bend, Lisa (Ralph) Zeit of West Bend, Sheila (Christopher) Jurss of West Bend and Jeanette (Ronald) Spieth of West Bend; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church only on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
