Marie L. Luce, 65
Marie L Luce, 65, Mayville, WI passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee.
Funeral services for Marie will be held on Tuesday, June 23 at 6 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mayville, for Mass of Christian burial with the Rev. Tom Biersack officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mathias Cemetery, Nabob. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the church.
Marie was born on Feb. 29, 1944, in rural Allenton, the daughter of Walter and Matilda (Berres) Ritger.
On April 20, 1968, she was united in marriage to Phillip B. Luce at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Nabob.
Marie was a graduate of Slinger High School in 1962, graduate of the Milwaukee Beauty College, graduate of the Dodge County Teachers College and UW-Oshkosh.
Marie was a beautician before entering her true profession: teaching. She taught kindergarten for over 30 years at Herman School in rural Mayville. During that time she touched many lives, and was touched in return by her students, parents and staff members. While teaching was her profession, gardening was her vocation. Marie was known locally as the "Plant Lady." She carried on her family’s tradition of selling at green markets. Many Mayville gardens were blessed by her plants.
Before her job and hobby however, her family and friends always came first. She truly enjoyed listening and talking to her friends and family. Her love towards others shined through, her kindness was well known.
Marie is survived by her husband Phillip; her children Dr. Helen (Keith Izatt) Luce of Wausau, John Luce of Mayville and Sara (Brett) Gustafson of Cannon Falls, Minn., and grandchildren Gabriel, Charles, Noah and Cade. Further survived by her sisters and brothers Rita (Tom) Farris of Monroe, Barbara (Jim) Panzer of Allenton, Joan (Jon) DeLuney of Bloomington, Minn., Lucy Noegel of West Bend, Ann (Jeff) Corenblum of Winter Park, Fla., Rudy (Pam) Ritger of Grantsburg and Alice (Butch) Bourget of Reading, Mass.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents.
Marie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Mayville, was active at St. Mary School, and a member of Main Street Mayville, former Mayville Jaycettes and the Red Hats of Mayville.
