Clara M. Roe, 96

Clara M. Roe (nee Wysocki), 96, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Clara was born on April 30, 1913, in Milwaukee to Walter and Magdeline (nee
Wrzysczynska) Wysocki. On Dec. 31, 1932, she married Byron E. Roe at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother who was also a faithful caregiver to her ailing parents. During WWII, she worked at Globe Union to help support her family. She was a very strong-willed woman who was always there for her family. Clara loved cooking, and family and friends always looked forward to the holiday meals she prepared. Even when you stopped by unannounced for a visit, she would heat you up leftovers you were certain she had just made especially for you. In addition to cooking, she loved mending, polka music and her soap operas.

After the passing of her husband Byron "Barney" on Oct. 11, 1974, she enrolled in driver education classes and received her driver’s license for the first time at the age of 62 years. She continued to take care of her home and enjoyed working in her back yard garden and picking pears from her tree and grapes from the vines that grew abundantly over her trellis. At the age of 81 years, she relinquished her driver’s license. In the years to follow, she resided with her daughter Ruth Ann, where she continued to do things around the home, including her laundry, which she was so meticulous about. Her afternoons were spent sitting in her chair with her feet propped up with Brandi at her side watching her soap operas. Brandi had been Ruth Ann’s dog, but adopted Clara as her master. She was saddened by the loss of Brandi in 2004. Clara’s ability to do the things she spent her life perfecting slowly stopped. In recent years as her body became weary, her spirit still had all the feistiness we had all come to know. Although her hearing diminished and her eyesight lessened, when you walked into the room, her eyes would light up with so much love, you felt it.

Clara is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Magdeline Wysocki; her husband, Byron E. "Barney" Roe; brothers; sisters; brothers-inlaw and sister in-law, Victoria (Roy) Millen, Marion (Arthur) Huber, Joseph (Evelyn) Wysocki, Helen (Melvin) Cooper, Stanley Wysocki, Stephen Wysocki; and son-in-law, William Lutz.

(Ninfi) Roe of Surprise, Ariz.; daughter, Ruth Ann Lutz of West Bend; her six grandchildren, Debra (Paul Miottel) Lutz of West Bend, Steven Lutz of Newburg, Jeffrey Lutz of Sarasota, Fla., Bruce (Lisa) Lutz of Richfield, Byron A.
