Valeria J. Matenaer

Valeria J. Matenaer, 85, of Hartford died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. She was born in Kenosha on Oct. 7, 1923, the daughter of George and Johanna (nee Tubelis) Sabalis.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcel, in 1994, her daughter, Geralyn, her brother-in-law, Norman Strowig, and her nephew, Joseph Strowig. Valeria is survived by her children, Suzanne Matenaer of Milwaukee, Kathleen (Richard) Dennis of Gillett, Wis., Thomas (Laura) Matenaer of Woodbury, Minn., Patricia (Dr. Wess) Vogt of Mequon, Charles Matenaer of Milwaukee, Jane (Paul Nicholls) Matenaer of Milwaukee, by her grandchildren, Sofia Yusuf, Carrisa Matenaer, Lindsay Matenaer, Jacob Matenaer, Brant Vogt and Elisa Vogt, by her great-granddaughter, Alexis Randolph, and by her sister, Josephine Strowig of Hartford.

Valeria grew up in Hartford and married Marcel in 1949. She worked alongside her husband at the Matenaer Funeral Home for 50 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, Hartford. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 264 W. State Street, at 1 p.m. Rev. David LaPlante will officiate. Private burial at St. Kilian Cemetery. Memorials to the Washington County Humane Society would be appreciated.
