Elizabeth M. Orphal, 97

Elizabeth M. Orphal (nee Cherney), age 97, of West Bend, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Kathy Hospice.

Elizabeth was born on March 27, 1911, to Frank and Anna (nee Stodola) Cherney in Eaton, Wis. She married the late Earl Orphal on November 8, 1938, at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Eaton, Wis. They lived in Milwaukee and the Grafton areas until they retired to Sun City, Ariz. Earl passed away on December 4, 1986. Elizabeth stayed in Sun City until 1993 when she moved back to West Bend. She was a life member of the Women’s Guild of St. Clement’s Catholic Church of Sun City, Ariz., Young at Heart and Christian Women of St. Frances Cabrini, and St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxillary, all of West Bend.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Jeanine (Thomas) Jankowski of Okeechobee, Fla., Clifton (Linda) of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Christeeda (David) Mies of West Bend. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, Karen (Doug) Semple, William Jankowski, Craig Doan, Christopher (Julie) Orphal, Daniel (Maggie) Mies, Jonathan (Maureen) Mies and Andy Mies; great-grandchildren Rachel (David) Weidner, Matthew (Cindy) Semple, Elizabeth (Christopher) Mathison, Jessica Jankowski, Abigain Semple, Collin Orphal and Isabela Mies; one great-great grandchild, Zoe Ghilardi, sister Lillian (Daniel) Klarkowski, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, brothers Martin, Thomas and William Cherney, two sisters, Anna Cherney and Theresa Klarkowski, two brothers-in-law, Wencil Cherney and Emil Klarkowski, three sisters-in-law, Ellen, Johanna and Shirley Cherney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 11:30 am at St. Frances Cabrini, 1025 S. Seventh Ave., West Bend, with Father Jeffrey Haines officiating. Entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park of Brookfield. Visitation will be at the CHURCH ONLY on Wednesday, March 4 from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth requested that you extend an act of kindness to a stranger or a Memorial to St. Frances Cabrini, the Food Pantry, Kathy Hospice.
