Howard Adam Spuhler, 90

Howard Adam Spuhler of Hartford, surrounded by his loving family, was born to eternal life on Monday, March 2, 2009, at the age of 90 years. He was born Dec. 20, 1918, the son of Royal and Cora (nee Strobel) Spuhler. He was united in marriage to Margaret Roethle on May 11, 1946 at St. Kilian Catholic Church. Howard served his country in World War II from 1941-1946 in the Pacific Campaign in the 7th Air Force Division, 318 Fighter Group, 333 Fighter Squadron. He retired from American Motors after 37 years of service.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife Margaret on Dec. 3, 2005. He is survived by his loving daughters Rosanne (George A.) Podrebarac of Illinois, Mary (James) McGrath of Hartford, Barbara (Mark) Surwillo of Fond du Lac and Susan (Greg) Bell of Hartford. Howard is the dear grandfather of Rebecca (William) Bozue of Illinois, George J. (Shannon) Podrebarac of Illinois, Andrea (fiance Shawn Finnan) Podrebarac of Illinois, John McGrath of Florida, Kathryn (James Bjerke) McGrath of Minnesota, Lisa (Alex Zepka) Surwillo of California, Michelle (Paulo Florio) Surwillo of Sheboygan, Julia Bell of Waukesha, Adam Bell, Bryan (fiancée Melissa Mueller) Bell and Margaret Bell of Hartford. He is the precious great-grandfather of Emma, William and Caleb Bozue, Helena Fonseca Surwillo, Katia Fonseca Zepka, Brock and Grant Bjerke and Lucca Florio. Dear brother of Earl (Pat), Burnell (Marie), Russell, Robert (Frances), Dorothy Conrardy and brother-in-law of Marie (Ken) Margelowsky. Also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, March 7, 2009, at noon at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 262 West State Street, Hartford. Father David LaPlante will officiate. Family will receive relatives and friends Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Interment St. Kilian Cemetery.

Memorials to St. Kilian’s Education Endowment Fund would be appreciated. The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home is serving the family.
