Irene B. Wenthur

Irene B. Wenthur (nee Jones), 91, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira. She was born April 16, 1917, in Baraboo where she was raised by the late Duncan and Minnie (nee Homes) Jones.

Following her marriage to Emil C. Wenthur on June 19, 1937, Irene and Emil settled in Milwaukee where they raised their family. Later, Irene was employed at Globe Union (now Johnson Controls) for 16 years until retirement in 1974. She moved to West Bend in 1990 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Irene was a resident of Meadowbrook Manor for over 10 years and then lived with her daughter before moving to Hope Health Center in 2005. Irene was an avid sport fan, following the Packers and Brewers regularly. She loved doing cross stitch needle work and making many keepsakes for her family. She also enjoyed collecting thimbles, glassware and Nativity scenes.

Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed by her family.

Survivors include her two children: Daunene (Bryon) Larsh of Jackson and Dennis Wenthur of Milwaukee, 10 grandchildren: Deborah (John) Goeden, Gilbert (Cheri) Stone, Paul Stone, Jeffrey Stone, Lisa (James) Bishop, Delaina (Ben) Komppa, Chara (Brad) Voght, Daryl (Megan) Wenthur, Lucas (Stephanie) Wenthur and Cassie Wenthur. She is further survived by 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law Pierce (Idell) Wenthur of Arizona, a niece and other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Emil, who passed away on Nov. 30, 1993, a brother Raymond Trussel and two sisters Ruth Pashen and Eleanor Witt.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with the Rev. Jeffrey Haines officiating. Entombment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Wisconsin Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.

Irene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Hope Health and Rehabilitation in Lomira for the loving and compassionate care given to Irene.
