Anna C. Gehring
Anna C. Gehring (nee Piek), 91, passed away
peacefully at Cedar Bay West Assisted Living in West Bend, on Monday,
March 9, 2009.
Anna was born Aug. 9, 1917 in Hartford to Joseph and Adeline (nee
Wiedmeyer) Piek. She was united in marriage to Andrew J. Gehring on Oct.
1, 1940, at the Shrine of Mary, Holy Hill.
Anna created quilts and framed puzzles for each family member. She spent
many happy hours playing cards and games with friends and family. She also
sang in the Cedar Bay Choir and entertained with her harmonica.
Anna is survived by her children, Carol (Richard) Skowlund, Edward (Karen)
Gehring, Andrew (Linda) Gehring, Marilynn "Maggie" Schwartz,
Stephen (Carol) Gehring, Greg (Karen) Gehring, Phil (Lorri) Gehring, Ann
(Richard) Wolfe and Christine (Randy) Lorrigan; daughter-in-law, Ceil
Gehring; close friend, Annette Heck; 30 grandchildren and 25
greatgrandchildren.
She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, one son, Charles, and
two infant daughters, Elaine and Gloria. Anna was the last surviving
member of her immediate family and is also preceded in death by three
brothers: John (Harriet) Piek, Anthony (Theresa) Piek and Alfred Piek;
four sisters: Clara (Bernard) Mueller, Josephine (Erwin) Gehring, Theresa
(Edmund) Ludwig and Mary Ann (Jerome) Riesterer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 10:30
a.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 264 W. State St., Hartford, with the
Rev. David LaPlante officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, March 13
from 4 to 8 p.m. with an 8 p.m. prayer vigil at the Shimon Funeral Home,
824 Union Street, Hartford, and Saturday at St. Kilian Church from 9:30
a.m. until the time of service.
Interment at St. John Cemetery, Rubicon.
Memorials to Cedar Community or to the American Cancer Society are
appreciated.
Family extends their gratitude to Cedar Bay West Assisted Living for the
loving care given to Anna, and Cedar Community Hospice. As Anna was so
famously quoted "Cedar Bay is not a home it is my resort."
