Clyde John Lucas

Clyde John Lucas, 85, of West Bend, passed away Wed-nesday, March 18, 2009 at Jackson Crossings, surrounded by his family.

Clyde was born on June 22, 1923 to Theodore and Gertrude (nee Twerdowski) Lucas in Big Stone, Minn. The family moved to Milwaukee in 1927. Clyde served in the Army in WWII from 1943-1946 where he was a driver for a colonel stationed in France and England.

He met Rita (nee Merkel) in 1950 and they were married on May 14, 1952. They raised a family in Wauwatosa for more than 30 years, then later moved to Brookfield.

Clyde was a longtime employee of Cutler-Hammer/ Eaton Corp. where he was a machinist that repaired and replaced machine parts. He retired in 1984. He excelled in working with wood, glass and metal, creating many items for the family and their church. In 2004, the couple moved to Cedar Ridge Community and are members of Holy Angels Catholic Church of West Bend.

Clyde is survived by his wife Rita; children Glenn (Chris) of Oklahoma, Phyllis (William) Barton of Racine, Claudia (Joseph) Braun of Milwaukee, Timothy of Milwaukee, Mary Ellen Heese and Mark Kurziak of West Bend, Jennifer (Chris-topher) Kowitz of Oak Creek, Katharine (Craig) Jones of Greenfield. He is further survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brothers Ralph, Harold and Elmer, sisters Florence Pirt and Gene-vieve Daas, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Dennis, brothers Eugene and Hubert.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church of West Bend with Father Rick Wendell officiating. Interment to follow mass at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church only on Monday, March 23 from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
