Oscar R. Hope
Oscar R. Hope, 94, formerly of Lansing, Mich., passed away on Friday, March 27, 2009 at River Way Place in West Bend.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1915 in Lancaster, Mo. to Gustus and Viola (Cook) Hope. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II and retired after 34 years of service in the Army in 1975. He married Ethel Remus in Lansing, Mich. on March 13, 1948. Ethel preceded him in death on June 16, 1995.
Oscar was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He retired from Fisher Body in 1980. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseshoe pitching. He was a member of the M46 and Capital City Horseshoe Clubs and was an inductee of the Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame.
Oscar is survived by his daughter, Viola (Thomas) Oilar, a son, Gary Hope, grandchildren, Michael Oilar and Alicia (Kevin) Phillips, and three great granddaughters, Alexis Oilar, Ashley Schlehlein, and Makenzie Phillips. He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Mary Louise, his siblings and their spouses, Roy Hope, Leslie Hope, Boyd Hope, Dona (Floyd) Hall, Victor (Allie) Hope, Elsie (Hugh) Beardslee, and Lowell (Lavaughn) Hope, other brother and sister in-in-laws. Cremation took place at Phillip Funeral Home and inurnment will be held at Deepdale Memorial Park in Lansing, MI at a future date.
