Mary E. Kern
Mary E. Kern (nee Gessert), 66, of the Town of Trenton, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Kathy Hospice.
Mary was born Oct. 28, 1942, to Harold and Marie (nee Thoma) Gessert in West Bend. She attended Holy Angels grade school and graduated from West Bend High School, class of 1960. Mary went on to receive her Certificate of Practical Nursing from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Milwaukee. It was at that time that she met her husband of 41 years, Francis T. ďTedĒ Kern. They were married at St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Bend on May 30, 1967. After marriage, they lived briefly in St. Louis, Mo., Columbus, Ohio, and Wauwatosa before moving their family to the town of Polk. It was there that they raised their seven children who attended St. Frances Cabrini and St. Peterís in Slinger and Slinger High School. Mary taught CCD at St. Peterís Catholic Church and was very involved with the Slinger High School Booster Club (PBO), making sure the concessions stands were well stocked. Mary was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Peterís Parish and a member of the Slinger-Allenton Inner Wheel. Mary was a dedicated mother to her family and did avid research and genealogy of her family. She spent many hours learning about her ancestors of the Bingen, Thoma, Gessert and Kern families.
Mary will be deeply missed by her husband, Ted; daughters, Andrea (Andy) Nelson of Mayville, Janelle (Ryan) Fleisner of Menomonee Falls, sons Erich (Cristel) of St. Paul, Minn., T.J. (Jenny) of Campbellsport and Nick (Angelica) of Kewaskum, Dan (fiance Abby) of West Bend. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Allie, Libby, Becca and Jack Nelson, Gracie Jo Kern, Anna and John Fleisner, and the newest member, Tony Kern; sister, Anne (Randy) Rahlf; brother, Jim (Carol) Gessert; sisters-in-law Jeanne (Herb) Jones, Judy (Howard) Nicholson, Mary (George) Vach, Angie (Jim) Sisk, Dolores Kern; brother-in-law, Jack (Mary) Kern; other relatives and many friends.
