Lourdes “Lou” Lavoignet Tamez of West Bend passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009, peacefully at home.
Lourdes was born in Mexico City on Sept. 30, 1935. At 19 years of age, Lou was crowned Beauty Queen in Vera Cruz, Mexico. An orphanage was named after her when she generously donated all of her proceeds. Lou had a love for the arts. She enjoyed singing and performing and drawing and painting. Lou was an owner of a leather goods store where she sold hand made purses and billfolds. Reading and writing poetry was a passion for Lou. Recently, she published a book of poetry, Poemas Ecologia En Amar. Currently, Lourdes was in the process of writing her second book.
Lourdes married Jorge L Tamez on April 1, 1956. In 1967, Lou and her family relocated to the United States. She remained in Fredrick, Okla., until 1971 when the family moved to West Bend.
Lou is survived by her four children, Jorge (Kelly) Tamez Jr. of Marshall, Gerard (Cassy) Tamez of New Market, Ala., Leticia Tamez of Hartford and Jay Tamez of West Bend; her nine grandchildren, Dr. Chad (Marcia) Tamez, Adam (Jackie) Lemmer, Ashia Lemmer, Anthony Tamez, Caitlin Hendricks, Julian Tamez, Christopher Tamez, Morgan Hendricks and Isabel Tamez; and three great grandchildren, Sophia Tamez, Gianna Tamez, and Payton Ross. She is survived further by many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Lourdes was preceded in death by her husband, Jorge L. Tamez, and her parents, Feliciano and Guadalupe (Dominguez) Lavoignet.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, 406 Jefferson St., West Bend, with the Rev. Mike Moran officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
