Gilbert "Gib" A. Baier

Gilbert "Gib" A. Baier of Hartford passed away Wednesday May 13, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Aurora Medical Center-Hartford at the age of 77.

He was born June 16, 1931 in Hartford, the son of Ervin and Viola (nee Jones) Baier.

Gilbert married Joyce Conrad on June 26, 1954. He was a dedicated husband and father, and a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Gib was born and raised in Hartford. He was well-liked by many people and always available to help others. Gib had that special ability to build it, repair it or make it into something else!

He retired from John Thielman and Sons with over 35 years of service.

Gib was an active member of Hartford Senior Friends and a lifelong blood donor, donating over 175 units of blood.

He spend the last 35 summers at the family cottage on Post Lake. Gib enjoyed fixing, working in the yard, snowmobiling, fishing and just being in the outdoors. He was on the go morning to night enjoying the things he loved.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Wills. in November 2008; his sisters, Betty Funk, Lilly Quandt and Audrey Konrad; and his brother, Chester Baier.

Gib is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce; his daughters, Susan Baier of DePere, Carol (Paul) Christensen of Fort Atkinson and Diane (Dan) Meissner of Appleton; his five grandchildren, Sydney Wills, Kevin Chris-tensen, Ann Christensen, Olivia and Nathan Meissner; and his son-in-law, Russell Wills of Arkansas. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Hartford.

Funeral Service will follow at the church at 5 p.m. Rev. Jessica Short will officiate.

Interment Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
