Leila Nora Bosley

Leila Nora Bosley (nee Menges-Bertram) of West Bend passed away Friday May 15, 2009, at the age of 85.

Leila was born on Aug. 22, 1923, to Henry and Ada (nee Schwartz) Menges in Two Rivers, where she also was raised. She graduated from Washington High School, class of 1941. Her husband ran a photo business in Milwaukee and flew airplanes for the 440th Reserve. They bought a number of apartment and business buildings in the Milwaukee area. The couple then purchased an abandoned farm in 1962 in West Bend. The house was built in 1845 and the original land grant was signed by President Polk to a man named Huberlein. They planted over 5,000 trees, built a swimming pool and restored a large barn and a log house. They hosted over 100 large barn dances. They also had over 10 miles of snowmobiling trails on their land and would gather many friends to share in the fun. Leila and Richard took many trips abroad, visiting five continents and 90 countries. They built a house on the southern coast of Alabama and spent much of the winters there for over 25 years.

Leila is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Richard of Jackson, and son Barry (Sally) Bertram of West Bend. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Nora, Sara and Barry Jr. "BJ"; sister, Gertrude, and other members of the Bosley family. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend, with the Rev. Pam Marolla officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 p.m. until time of service. Interment will take place Friday at noon at South Eastern WI Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove.

Wait for me baby, it won’t be long. We’ve got a lot more exploring to do.
