Paul Andrew Baka

Paul Andrew Baka, 71, of West Bend died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at the Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk after a courageous, two-year battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Waterloo, to the late John and Jacqueline (nee Wilsey) Baka.

He was an avid outdoorsman, but foremost he loved to fish on the lakes around West Bend and on Windfall Lake near Wabeno. No matter the weather or the time of year, when he had his fishing pole in his hand and a catch in the basket, he was most content. He was often joined in the boat by friends and family, and especially enjoyed the company of his grandkids, helping to teach each of them to fish and enjoy the outdoors as much as he did.

He spent the majority of his working career employed as a sporting goods department manager at Sears and later at K-Mart. He always took great pride in maintaining a neat and organized store and providing exemplary service to his customers.

Paul is survived by his children, Mike (Evelyn) Baka of Kohler, Mark (Sheila) Baka of Mankato, Minn., Jackie (Roger) Caplinger of Menomonee Falls; his companion of more than 35 years, Peaches Seitz; grandchildren, Shawn, Tyler, Shannon, Kyle, Brett and Keith; great-grandchildren, Kyli and Logan; brothers, Jim (Barb) Baka of Mequon and Reily (Pat) Baka of Ligoneer, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Baka; and sisters, Jeanette "Sis" McIntosh and Kathleen Roberts.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at noon at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with the Rev. Rob Goodwin officiating. Inurnment will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Paulís family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
