James LeRoy Melchert
James LeRoy Melchert, 76, of Cole Camp, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp.
He was born Nov. 25, 1932, in Winter, a son of Otto Frank and Marian (nee Martin) Melchert. In 1950 he graduated from Winter High School in Winter. From Jan. 17, 1951, to Dec. 2, 1954, he served his country honorable in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On Feb. 19, 1955, in West Bend, he was united in marriage to Audrey M. Troedel, who preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2008.
For 19 years, James was a civilian employee for the United States Air Force, retiring in 1973. While employed with the USAF, he lived in Morocco, Libya and the Azores Islands. In 1970, he moved to Sedalia. In 1987, he retired from Wilsonís Foods in Marshall. He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cole Camp. He read an entire set of encyclopedias and enjoyed riding motorcycles.
James is survived by his daughter, Heather ( Stephen) Ives of Cole Camp; his son, Jamie (Brenda) Melchert of Columbia; his brother, William Melchert of Fairbanks, Alaska; five grandchildren, Jenny (Curtis) Pehl, Marla Ives, Renee Ives, Haley Melchert and Nicholas Melchert; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Ruthann Pehl.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lorraine Melchert Keating; and four brothers, Richard, Peter, Otto and Francis Melchert.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cole Camp, with the Rev. Keith Branson officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Springfork. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the church with visitation to follow. Pallbearers will be John Gerke, Gordon Ives, Frank Tobaben, Victor Monsees, Kenneth Koeller and Mike Simon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Good Samaritan Care Center in care of the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
