Howard Groth, 75

Howard Groth of Cedarburg passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at the age of 75 years.
Howard was born in Cedarburg to Herbert and Elfreida (nee Hoppe) Groth and married Arlene (nee Grasser) on Jan. 15, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington.

Howard and his family owned and operated Groth Well Drilling in Cedarburg, which has been in business since the early 1900s. Howard was the third generation and now it is being operated by his son and grandson, which would be five generations. Howard was also a member of the Wisconsin Water Well Association.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Cedarburg; children, James of Cedarburg, Barbara (Frederick) Berres of West Bend, Michael of Phoenix and Sue Marie (Craig) Birnschein of Cedarburg; sister-in-law, Marion (Marvin) Huiras of Port Washington; and brother-in-law, Paul (Ann) Grasser of Flagstaff, Ariz. He is further survived by nine grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents.

Howard enjoyed and raced stock cars in the 1950s. His winters were spent in Florida with Arlene. He enjoyed his rock garden and loved flowers.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, at St. Francis Borgia North

Catholic Church  Cedarburg. Entombment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Mequon. Visitation was at the church on Monday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or your choice are appreciated.
