Lyle O. Schroeter, 83, of West Bend, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.

Lyle was born on April 30, 1926, in the town of Sherman in Sheboygan County, to Alfred and Selma (nee Risse) Schroeter. He was raised in Silver Creek and graduated from Random Lake High School, class of 1944. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Lyle married Gertrude (nee Boll) on May 24, 1974, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend. Lyle was a machinist for Weasler Engineering and then A.O. Smith Corps., which he retired from. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing, especially on the great lakes. Lyle had a drive to fix things and usually made it better than it was before. He also enjoyed polka music, dancing on Sundays to polka music and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. Lyle was member of the NRA and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Gertrude; children, Jeff (Marie) of West Bend, Darrell (Janine) of Allenton and Cari (Pam) of Colonial Beach, Va. He is further survived by six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Delmar (Nancy) of Silver Creek; sister-in-law, Donna Schroeter of Silver Creek and Althea Rausch of Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vilas; and sister, Eileen Boblin.

A funeral service will be on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Bend with the Rev. Robert Donaldson presiding. Interment to follow service at Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 7, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with additional visitation on Thursday, April 8, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
