Ruth M. Hassmer, 83

Ruth M. Hassmer, 83, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Ruth was born on April 22, 1926, in the town of Polk to Louis and Paulina (nee Schultz) Hassmer. Her mother passed away at an early age, so after grammar school, Ruth stayed at home to help raise her sister. Later she worked briefly at Rockfield Canning Co. and then began her career at Sprague Co. in Grafton, where she retired. Ruth liked to go to flea markets to buy and resell many things including Christmas decorations and lots of crafts. Her favorite collectables were salt and pepper shakers. She was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Virginia Erler of Jackson; niece, Cindy Martin of Green Bay; and nephew, Tim Erler of Jackson; other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Kenneth Erler; and nephew, Kevin Erler.

A funeral service will be on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janis Best presiding. Interment to follow service at Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church only on Thursday, April 8, from noon until time of service.
