Carol A. Aspen (nee Melius), 88, of Mount Prospect, Ill., formerly of West Bend, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Ill.

She was born on April 17, 1922, in Boltonville to the late Milton and Linda (nee Gerhardt) Melius. She married Herbert H. Aspen on Nov. 7, 1942, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend. The couple lived in Mount Prospect, Ill., for many years until their retirement. In 1991 they moved back to West Bend. Herbert passed away Dec. 27, 2002. In 2009 Carol moved back to Mount Prospect to live with her son and family.

While living in West Bend, Carol was an active member of Immanuel United Church of Christ

She is survived by three children, Kris (Rita) Aspen of Manhattan, Kan., Kurt (Darlene) Aspen of Mount Prospect, Ill., and Kent (Jen) Aspen of Cobden, Ill.; six grandchildren, Michelle Nauert-Merani, Kelly Aspen, Laura Aspen, Joshua Aspen, Carolyn Grace Aspen and Adeline Aspen; a great-grandson, Michael Nauert; a sister, Mavis Lochen of West Bend; two brothers, Miles Melius of Slinger and Leroy "Ike" Melius of West Bend; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Helen.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 501 Walnut St., West Bend. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment of the cremated remains will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or Immanuel United Church of Christ would be appreciated.
