Bernice
F. Scharf, 90, of Fond du Lac, and a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran
Home for the past 2 years, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, with
her daughter Sharon at her side.
She was born July 18, 1920, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Joseph and
Ella Perry Balthazor. On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Raymond F. Scharf at
St. Louis Parsonage and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1993. Bernice
lived in Dodge County until moving to Taycheedah in 1981. She was a member
of Holy Family Parish. Bernice volunteered for the Red Cross, helping at
blood drives, and was very active in school activities with her children.
Bernice was very athletic, playing on the Fond du Lac Women’s Basketball
Team in her youth. While living in Theresa she played softball with
teammates half her age. She was also a bowling fanatic, she was on leagues
at Parkway and Ledgeview Lanes from 1980 until 2008. Bernice enjoyed
traveling, golfing and going to dances with her husband.
Survivors include one son, Dan (Mary) Scharf, Alamogordo, N.M.; two
daughters, Sharon (Paul) Boegel of Kewaskum and Barbara VanPelt of Las
Cruces, N.M.; grandchildren, Jodi (James) Ryan, Tari (Peter) Phillips,
Brent (Stacey) Boegel, Blake Boegel, Danielle Zills, Jeremy Zills and
Amanda Zills; four great-grandchildren, Rylan, Brianna, Jessica and Isaac;
nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gary; one
brother, Raymond; and one sister, Lorraine.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, at Uecker-Witt
Funeral Home. There will be no formal funeral service. Burial will take
place in Union Cemetery, Theresa.
