Joseph J. Schlagenhaft, 88, of St. Anthony, died at home with his family by his side on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1921, on the family homestead in St. Anthony to the late August and Ida (nee Brandner) Schlagenhaft. On May 14, 1955, he was united in marriage to Veronica M. Steger at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

In addition to running the family farm, Joe was an avid hunter and trapper. He also bought and sold many different types of furs and pelts.

Survivors include his wife; nine children, Ruth (Rich) Laubenheimer of Slinger, Carl (Linda) of St. Anthony, Paul (Annie) of Campbellsport, Lucy (Russ) Scharrer of St. Anthony, Leo of St. Anthony, Sue (Ty) Gutjahr of West Bend, Bob of St. Anthony, Judy (Ron) Ritger of West Bend and Mary (Kevin) Geldreich of Allenton; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Viola Steger of Lomria; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tom; and two brothers, John and Henry.

Private family services will be held with burial of the cremated remains in St. Anthony Cemetery.
