Elroy J. ‘Ike’ Borchert, 92
Elroy J. "Ike" Borchert, 92, of Jackson, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010.
Ike was born on July 6, 1917, to Hugo and Adella (nee Dhein) in Rockfield. He attended Rockfield Elementary School, graduated from Menomonee Falls High School.
He later married Virgnia "Ginny" Schwamb on Jan. 17, 1953, at Christ UCC in Dheinsville. The couple lived in Jackson. He served in the Army for five years in the European Theater of Operations and the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII and was an active member of the Reserves for 31 years, retiring as a Major in 1977. Ike worked at Bloomberg Leather Co. for eight years and then was a U.S. Rural Postal carrier for over 23 years, retiring in 1982. Ike also drove for Riteway Bus Co. The couple moved to Hartford Square Condominiums in 1998 and Ike moved to Jackson Crossings in June of 2007.
He enjoyed big band music, taking care of his home and yard, attending Brewers baseball games, traveling with his wife and friends and he always had a good story to tell.
Ike was a member of the Wash. Co., State and National Rural Letter Carriers, 60 year member of the American Legion Henry F. Gumm Post No. 486, the Retired Officers Assoc., lifetime member of the Reserves Officers Assoc. of the US, Lincoln Lodge F & AM No. 183, Masonic Lodge for 63 years and a 32nd degree Mason, Tripoli Temple, Washington and Ozaukee Shrine Club and the WI Consistory.
Ike is survived by his children, James (Sue Picciolo) Borchert of West Bend and Cynthia (Frank) Hammond of North Carolina. He is further survived by his step-grandchildren, Scott (Kelli) Hammond and Steve (Heather) Hammond; five great-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Lillian Borchert; brothers-in-law, Harold Schwamb and Franklin Schwamb; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ginny; sister, Anita (George) Moersfelder; brother, Reuben; sisters-in-law, Ruthe Schwamb and Maxine Schwamb.
A memorial service for Ike will be on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at 4 p.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ, 4360 Jackson Drive, Jackson, with the Rev. James Hill officiating. Visitation will be at the church only on Sunday, Feb. 21, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service with an American Legion Henry F. Gumm Post No. 486 walk through at 3:30 p.m. and a Masonic Lodge Ceremony to follow. Memorials are appreciated to New Hope UCC, James Albrecht Free Clinic or the charity of your choice in Ike Borchert’s name.
