Mabel P. Degner, 91
Mabel P. Degner, (nee Joedike), 91, of West Bend, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1918, on the family homestead farm in the town of Trenton to the late Louis and Clara (nee Ziegler) Joedike. Mabel graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1936. Upon graduation she began working as a secretary for Schloemer Law Office. On May 25, 1946, Mabel was united in marriage to Walter Degner at St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Mabel continued to work for Schloemer Law Office, becoming a paralegal, until she retired in 1981. She was a member of the Washington County and Ozaukee County Legal Secretaries Association and Ladies Aux. for Lutheran Home in Milwaukee. Mabel was a lifetime member of St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of St. Johnís Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; her two children, Carol (William) Bremser and David (Lucille) Degner, both of West Bend; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Dana) Nielsen of St. Petersburg, Fla., Matthew (Erin) Bremser of Sheboygan, Elizabeth Degner of Slinger and Jenna Degner of Milwaukee; two sisters-in-law, Edith Degner of West Bend and Kathryn Degner of Germantown; other relatives and dear friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Carl (Ruth) Joedike; her sister-in-law, Bernice (Elroy) Remmel; and her brother-in-law, Harold Degner.
A memorial service in remembrance of Mabel will be held on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend, with the Rev. Guy Roberts officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place this spring in Washington County Memorial Park.
