Richard P. Guenther, 75


Richard P. Guenther, 75, of Freeport, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison.

He was born July 17, 1934, in Crofton, Neb., a son of Henry A. and Veronica (nee DeBlauw) Guenther. He was a graduate of Crofton High School. On Aug. 5, 1967, he married Marietta Peters at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend. Richard was an active member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Freeport.

He was active in agriculture, working for American Breeders Service, A.O. Smith Harvestore and was owner of Tri-State AG Associates.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, and a member of Crofton American Legion Post No. 1128, the Knights of Columbus in Delavan and a past Rotary member.

He enjoyed his work, fellowship with friends and his morning coffee at Don’s Oasis.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Marietta of Freeport; his son, John of Freeport; his daughter, Kristine of Orlando, Fla.; four sisters and four brothers; many loving nieces and nephews; Marietta’s family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Wilfred and Donald; and a niece, Lorrie Kliment.

The funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Freeport. A memorial has been established in his memory.
