Edwin F. Hammen, 90
Edwin
F. Hammen, 90, of West Bend, passed away Saturday July 10, 2010, at Select
Specialty Hospital in West Allis.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1919, in Campbellsport to the late Frederick and
Hilda (nee Backhaus) Hammen. On Oct. 28, 1950, Ed was united in marriage
to Emily Risse at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Silver Creek.
Together they made their home and raised their family in Silver Creek
until moving to West Bend in 1965.
For many years, Ed worked at Sager’s Men’s Apparel in West Bend. He
retired in 1984, but still helped out during holidays and special events.
Ed has been an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
since moving to West Bend, and participated in the church choir, finance
committee, Sunday school and St. John’s School Board. For many years he
was also active with the West Bend Beautification Committee.
Ed is survived by four children, David (Lynn) Hammen of West Bend, Karen
Hammen of Fond du Lac, Mark (Sue) Hammen of Slinger and James (Pearl)
Hammen of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Jill) Hammen, Kari
(Casey) Kane, Andy Hammen, Aaron (fiancé, Emily Leis) Hammen, Matthew
(special friend, Stacey Barnes) Hammen, Megan (Kevin) Kusnick and Melissa
Hammen; three great-grandchildren, Mallory Kane, Abigail Kane and Ember
Hammen; two sisters, Florence Seyfert of Tempe, Ariz., and Elaine Werner
of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Caroline Risse of Elkhart Lake; other
relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Koenig and Dolores Luedtke;
and two brothers, Harold Hammen, and Lester Hammen.
Funeral services in remembrance of Edwin will be held on Wednesday, July
14, at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th
Ave., West Bend. The Rev. Rob Donaldson will officiate. Visitation will be
at the church Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Entombment
will be in Washington County Memorial Park Thursday at 9 a.m.
Memorials to the George Mumm Scholarship Fund or Living Word High School
are appreciated by the family.
