Elizabeth R. ‘Betty’ Kranitz, 90


Elizabeth R. "Betty" Kranitz (nee Herrmann), a resident of Alexian Village and a former longtime resident of Mequon, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010, at the age of 90.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Kranitz; dear mother of Richard (the late Mary), Anthony (Deb) and Jonathon (Laura) Kranitz; proud grandmother of Aleece (Ryan) Vanderloop, Katie (Phil) Woods, Matthew Kranitz, Tia (Benny) Boesch and Kevin, Scott and Steve (Kristin) Kranitz; and great-grandmother of Jacoby Vanderloop, Kassidy and Mackenzie Woods, Alisha Boesch and Jack Kranitz. Betty is further survived by her sister, Lois (the late Jack) Jankowski, other relatives and friends.

Betty was an active member of a number of Mequon-Thiensville community organizations and past officer of several of them. She began her community volunteerism when she moved to Mequon in 1959. Betty joined the Newcomers Club, Post Scripts, Mequon Woman’s Club, Band Parents, Thiensville-Mequon Library League, and the League of Women Voters. She was also a member of the Ozaukee Country Club.

In addition to raising her three sons, Betty was the bookkeeper at Kranitz Corp. She enjoyed knitting teddy bears and hats for newborns at the Columbia Center hospital. Betty would never pass up an opportunity to play Scrabble board games with her grandchildren or Bridge or Sheepshead card games with her friends. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, golfing and boating with both her family and the Milwaukee Cruising Fleet. Betty thoroughly enjoyed spending weekends at her cottage near Crandon.

The family will receive friends at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral and Cremation Service, 10280 N. Port Washington Road, Mequon, on Thursday, July 15, from 4 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7 p.m. Memorials in Betty’s name may be directed to VITAS Hospice, 2675 N. Mayfair Rd. Suite 500, Wauwatosa, WI 53226.

Betty’s family wishes to thank the staff of Alexian Village and the staff of VITAS hospice for the loving care they provided to Betty.
