Adeline Helen Wood, 89
Adeline
Helen Wood (nee Schmelter), 89, of West Bend, passed away July 10, 2010,
at Cedar Lake Health Care Center, where she resided for more than six
years.
Adeline was born on April 27, 1921, to William and Alma (nee Giese)
Schmelter in Escanaba, Mich., where she was born and raised. Adeline
graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., in 1943.
She moved to Wisconsin for her first teaching position, and she continued
her teaching career within the Milwaukee Public Schools until her
retirement in 1983.
She was married to Edmund Mayrhofer from 1948 to 1951, LeRoy Gibson from
1959 to 1977 and Robert Wood 1981 to 1982. Adeline loved to read and solve
puzzles. She also enjoyed the company of dogs and traveling.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Slavik and Kathleen
Gibson; two grandchildren, Scott (girlfriend, Diana) and Todd (Kelly)
Slavik. Adeline was a proud great-grandmother of Trinity and Jonah Slavik.
She is also survived by her brother, Raymond (Marian) Schmelter of Salem,
S.C.; nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and sister, Gladys S.
Blizzard.
Memorial services for Adeline will be at noon on Thursday, July 15, 2010,
at the Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Dr., West Bend, with the
Rev. Cheryl Matusiak presiding. Gathering will be from 10 a.m. until time
of service.
