Jane May Kasten, 80

Jane May Kasten (nee Rosenheimer), 80, formerly of Big Cedar Lake, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at her residence.

She was born on June 12, 1929, in Columbus to the late Elmo and Isabel (nee Farley) Rosenheimer.

While growing up in Jackson, she attended local schools and graduated from West Bend High School. She then attended the former Rosary College in Illinois. After transferring to St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., she received a bachelorís degree and later earned a masterís degree in social work.

On Oct. 23, 1965, she was united in marriage to Frederick C. Kasten at St. Johnís Cathedral in Milwaukee. Fred predeceased Dec. 8, 2005.

For many years, Jane worked as a medical social worker at the former Milwaukee County Hospital.

Music was a big part of her life. In addition to being a pianist, she was a member of the Moraine Chorus and sang with the choir at St. Frances Cabrini Church. She also enjoyed playing tennis. As a resident of Cedar Bay East Assisted Living, she was a member of the Chimes, participated in many social events and was elected to the resident council. She was a member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club, the Womenís Club of Milwaukee and the West Bend Country Club. Jane also volunteered with the American Cancer Society Reach To Recovery Program.

Survivors include two children, Cindy (Gary) Rodkin of Western Springs, Ill., and John Kasten of West Bend; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Willie, Nolan and Sam; other family members, Fay Fitts, Bruce Rosenheimer, Penny Sorinson, Mary Rosenheimer, Alathena Kasten Bryne and Alathena Anita Byrne; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Rosenheimer.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 11, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Haines presiding. Inurnment will be in Rosenheimer Cemetery in Slinger. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Friday from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

The family has requested memorials for the benefit of St. Frances Cabrini School.
