Helen Rose Burckardt


Helen Rose Burckardt (nee Kirchner) passed away June 14, 2010 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.

Helen was born Feb.11, 1925 in the Town of Wayne, Washington County, Wis., to Henry and Rose (nee Engeleiter) Kirchner. She attended Kewaskum High School for three years before graduating from West Bend High School in 1942. On June 2, 1943, she married James Burckardt at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.

Helen was employed at the Washington County Register of Deeds office and by Dr. R. O. Frankow. She also served many years as school secretary at Barton Elementary School, Silverbrook and Badger middle schools. More recently she worked for the Washington County department of social services energy assistance program.

Helen was active in her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, council-person, committee member and church council president. She was active in the community, donating time to the Brownies, Cub Scouts and 4-H. For several years, she was also a member of the West Bend School Board.

Survivors include daughter Margo Bauman of West Bend and sons Dr. Robert (Sharon) Burckardt of Louisville, Ky., and Richard (Charlotte) Burckardt of West Bend. Grandchildren include Michael (Tara) Houck of Norman, Okla., Benjamin (Jeneen) Bauman of Bartlett, Ill., Samuel (Dr. Amy Spaeth) Bauman and Aaron Burckardt of West Bend, Angela Bauman of Frederick, Md., Christopher Burckardt of Glendale, Wis., Steven (Foley) Burckardt of Wilmette, Ill., Robert (Elizabeth) Burckardt, Jennifer (Nick) Bach, Dr. Kenneth Burckardt and Gage Novak of Louisville. She is further survived by four great-grandchildren and brother, William Kirchner.

Preceding her in death were her husband; son John William Burckardt; sisters Emma Kirchner, Esther Kirchner, and Vinelda and husband Rudy Schulz; her brother Henry Kirchner and his wife Esther, brother-in-law Staff Sgt. Robert J. Burckardt and sister-in-law Eileen Kirchner; parents, and parents-in-law Oscar and Rose Burckardt.

A Memorial Service for Helen will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1044 S. Silverbrook Drive in West Bend with the Rev. Pam Marolla presiding. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 18, at the Washington County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Our Saviors Lutheran Church Debt Reduction Fund.
