Charles ‘Chuck’ Zastrow, 87

Charles W. "Chuck" Zastrow, 87, of West Bend went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2010 at home.

Chuck was born on April 29, 1922 to Emil and Elizabeth (nee Lueck) in Hartford, Wis.

He married Edythe Weiss on Dec. 5, 1943.

Chuck and his mother operated Zastrow's Eat Shoppe for four years, and after WWII, operated the same restaurant with his wife, Edythe. He was employed at the West Bend Aluminum Company for 34 years as a development engineer, retiring at 62.

PFC Zastrow served in the U.S. Army in WWII in General Patton's 3rd Army, 80th Division, 317th Infantry Division in northern France and the Rhineland as a 30 cal. heavy machine gunner. His citations include Combat Infantry badge, Purple Heart, and two Bronze Stars.

Chuck was a charter member of the American Legion, Sgt. Henry F. Gumm Post #486 and a life member of the VFW Fred A. Schaefer Post #1393 of West Bend, having served as commander for three years.

Chuck is survived by his devoted and loving wife Edythe (nee Weiss); children Charles R. (Jennette) Zastrow of Milwaukee, Craig (Becky) Zastrow of Charlotte, N.C., and Jay (Debbie) Zastrow of Casper, Wyo.; and g r a n d ch i l d re n Martha (Steven) Suess, Sandra (Chris) Pardel, Jeremiah (Amy) Zastrow, Nicole (Aaron) Rudolph, and Matthew, Allison, and Lauren Zastrow. He is further survived by greatgrandchildren Ryan and Erin Suess and Kale and Bryce Zastrow.

A Memorial Service for Chuck will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Dr. in West Bend with the Rev. David Schoob presiding. Gathering will be from 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial of remains to follow at Washington County Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank the Cedar Community Hospice for their loving kindness and compassion.
