Margaret M. ‘Peggy’ Hanley, 86

Our dear mother, Peggy Hanley, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010, with her loving family surrounding her at the Kathy Hospice in West Bend.

Peggy was born on July 21, 1923, in Milwaukee to Warren and Anne (nee Gehrs) Aukofer. She was married to the late Dr. John C. Hanley on June 30, 1954.

Peggy graduated from Messmer High School in 1941. She then graduated from Marquette University College of Nursing with a bachelor of science degree as a registered nurse in 1945. Her career began at St. Joseph’s Hospital and she then later worked at St. Michael’s Hospital. Peggy was also one of the original founders of Historic Milwaukee. She volunteered at the Red Cross and traveler’s aid at Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport.

Peggy is survived by her children, Army Brigadier General John C. (Faye) Hanley of New Berlin and Laura (Doug) Keberle of West Bend; and grandchildren, John and Katie Hanley and Lexi Keberle. She is further survived by her sisters, Laurine (Erv) Karow of West Bend and Barbara (Mac) McRae of Saukville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 836 N. Broadway, Milwaukee, with the Rev. Brian Mason presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
