Jean M. Barber, 54
Jean M. Barber (nee Ecker), 54, of Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, formerly of West Bend, died on Monday, June 14, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 17, 1956, in West Bend to John and Eileen (nee Barber) Ecker.
In 1974, she graduated from West Bend East High School. She then went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she received her bachelor of science degree. Later she earned a masterís degree in education from the University of Toronto.
On May 19, 1978, she was united in marriage to Stephen Barber at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Jean loved her chosen profession of teaching and taught first grade at Janet Lee Elementary School. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than teaching children to read.
Jean loved her cats and reading. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and running. She was a member of a book club. Her son played hockey for many years, so she was a hockey mom.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen; two children, Kelsey Leigh Barber of Ancaster and Justin Mitchell Barber of Whistler, British Columbia; her mother, Eileen Ecker of West Bend; her sister, Ruth Ruh of West Bend; her brother, Michael (Katherine) Ecker and their son Jed of Westboro; an uncle, William (Gwen) Barber; a sister-inlaw, Diana Barber and her son Michael Sejevick; her parents-in-law, Norman and Evelyn Barber of Hamilton, Ontario; her cousins; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Ecker; a brother-in-law, Donald Ruh; and her grandparents, Glenn and Mabel Barber and John and Elsie Ecker.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend with the Rev. Davidd Schoob officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Saturday from noon until the time of the services at 2 p.m.
The family has requested memorials to The Threshold or the Washington County Humane Society.
